Alex Cooper, podcaster and host of Call Her Daddy (CHD), lost thousands of social media followers after hosting an interview with Kamala Harris on her show.
Data from the social media tracking site Social Blade shows that the day following Cooper’s interview with Vice President Harris, which was uploaded on October 6, Cooper saw a loss of 5,000 followers from her personal Instagram account and a loss of 3,302 followers from her podcast’s Instagram account.
Cooper has so far gained 2,500 followers on October 8 to her personal account, and 1,719 to her podcast account, so she ended up seeing a net loss of 4,083 across both accounts in the days after the interview.
Alex Cooper has been contacted for comment via email to her company Unwell.
Follower drop data from Social Blade only tracks back to mid-September, so it is unclear whether Cooper has ever experienced a similar drop in followers after interviews with other guests.
While Harris was arguably Cooper’s biggest interviewee, she also received some criticism from listeners who did not expect to expect to hear political content from her, and others who were put off by her platforming of a Democrat.
Cooper’s discussion with Kamala Harris largely focused on the issues affecting women and young people in the 2024 presidential election.
Harris spoke with Cooper about her commitment to reproductive rights, her plan to cut taxes for new parents, and her policy proposals on student debt relief.
Harris also took the opportunity to hit back at comments from opponents about her being “childless,” telling Cooper that she thought they were “mean spirited.”
On October 7, Cooper posted another video explaining that while she does not usually stray into politics, this was an interview that she felt she needed to be involved in.
Cooper said: “At the end of the day I couldn’t see a world in which one of the main conversations in this election is women, and I’m not a part of it,” this is because “my focus is women, and the day to day issues that we face.”
She added that she has also reached out to Trump’s team to invite him on the show, adding “if he wants to have a meaningful and in depth conversation about women’s rights in this country, then he’s welcome on Call Her Daddy any time.”
“Call Her Daddy” launched in 2018 as a sex advice podcast hosted on Barstool Sports by both Cooper and her roommate. The duo fell apart in 2020, and Cooper’s podcast was signed onto a $60 million with Spotify with her as the sole host.
Since then, Cooper has branched out from X-rated advice into the interview space, and has spent more time as host talking to celebrities and predominantly powerful women such as Simone Biles and Laverne Cox.
“Call Her Daddy” is the fourth most listened-to podcast across all podcasting platforms in the US. Per Newsweek reporting, according to Forbes, it is the most listened to podcast by women on Spotify.
